Books

These books are available through Eastern National, a nonprofit arm of the National Park Service chartered by Congress. Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area, the Museum of North Carolina Minerals, Cowpens National Battlefield, and Kings Mountain National Military Park normally stock these books.

King's Mountain and Its Heroes, Lyman C. Draper, LL.D., Overmountain Press, Reprint of the 1881 edition: This is the definitive work on Kings Mountain.

With Fire and Sword, Wilma Dykeman, National Park Service: This is a nice short telling of the story with wonderful color illustrations.

The Overmountain Men, Pat Alderman, Overmountain Press: This modern account covers both the battle and the trail as it exists today.

The Patriots at Kings Mountain, Dr. Bobby Gilmer Moss, Scotia-Hibernia Press: Based on pension applications and published sources, this is acompilation of short biographies of Patriot participants at Kings Mountain. Dr. Moss also lists those who may have participated during some events but not in the battle. This is the must read for descendants of Kings Mountain veterans.

The Loyalists at Kings Mountain, Dr. Bobby Gilmer Moss, Scotia-Hibernia Press: This companion to his biographies of Patriots lists those on the opposing side who were loyal to the crown and fought with Ferguson at Kings Mountain.

Videos

"Kings Mountain: The Turning Point in the South," the 18-minute movie presented at Kings Mountain National Military Park, is available through Eastern National Parks & Monument Association at many of its affiliated bookstores.

"The Overmountain People: The Settlement of Tennessee During the American Revolution," the 25-minute video presented at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area, Tennessee, deals with the Watauga and Holston settlements in what became Tennessee. Along with Campbell's Virginians from nearby, the Overmountain men under Sevier and Shelby made up the majority of the Patriot army at Kings Mountain.

Audio

Music recorded during the Kings Mountain Forum at Kings Mountain National Military Park will be issued through Eastern National. No recorded music about Kings Mountain is known, although several songs were recorded in the past.
