The trail may be followed from Abingdon Virginia, as described, or in reverse starting from Kings Mountain National Military Park.
In Morganton, follow U.S. 64 west (Victory Trail) to Rutherfordton. In Rutherfordton, turn left on U.S. 221 south past the courthouse to North Carolina 108. Turn right and left soon after. Follow NC 108 past the Rutherfordton Elementary School and the hospital. Continue on NC 108 south towards Columbus and Tryon. At Mill Springs, turn left on NC 9 and proceed south. At the fork proceed left towards Chesnee, leaving NC 9 (which continues to Spartanburg).
