OVERMOUNTAIN VICTORY NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAIL
Large Vehicle Access in North Carolina
From Elkin to Morganton (Wilkes-Surry Segment)
Horizontal Rule

Most of the Commemorative Motor Route is on two-lane state or U.S. highways suitable for large vehicles, including RV, buses, and cars or trucks with trailers. There are limitations and special circumstances at specific facilities.

North Carolina 268

Narrow, two-lane road suitable for moderate speeds. Several sharp curves.

U.S. 321

The brief stretch of U.S. 321 outside of Leboir is a fast, four-lane, divided highway that changes to an urban street in Lenoir. The intersection of N.C. 268 and U.S. 321 requires caution and alertness in crossing over northbound traffic.

U.S. 321A & N.C. 18 Bypass

The route through Lenoir is a mix of narrow and wide streets with traffic heavy during weekday rush hours. Large truck traffic in town is common.

N.C. 18 & U.S. 64

The route into Morganton is mostly two lanes and hilly.
