Elwha River Restoration
Chinook
Rain-drenched red alders gracefully line the Elwha’s banks. On higher terraces, Douglas-fir and western hemlock trees shelter black bears, cougars and raccoons. A solitary bald eagle sits atop a jagged snag.  At the opportune moment, it darts riverward to seize a  silver-bodied salmon. Long ago, the powerful Elwha River ran freely, from the mountains to the sea. (More)
