Pioneer Period

The Pioneer Period begins in 1802 with the first land concession by the Creeks that allowed the Georgians to settle west of the Oconee River, and ends around 1821, with another land concession in which the Creeks gave up almost all of their land east of the Flint River. The twenty year Pioneer Period is the story of American expansion and Creek withdrawal across Georgia. However, as you will see one small but significant piece of Georgia was never ceded by the Creek people.
