Colonial Period

The Colonial Period begins in 1540 and ends around 1795. You may have notice this overlaps the Prehistoric Period. History often has blurred edges on its time periods. In this case, the Lamar Culture was still going strong when the first Europeans arrived. As you will see in a moment, it is this first contact which brings dramatic changes to the population and society at the Ocmulgee Old Fields.

From the European point of view, this first contact opens new territory to exploration and colonization, and so begins the Colonial Period.
