Museum-Visitor Center
Ocmulgee's large Visitor Center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its unusual architecture. It houses a major archeological museum. Exhibits describe the human habitation of the area from Clovis Paleo-Indians of pre-10,000 BC to the Great Depression-era archeological excavations which led to the National Monument's creation in 1936. Emphasis is on the large Early Mississippian town that flourished here from AD 900 to 1150. A 17-minute film,"Ocmulgee: Mysteries of the Mounds," is shown upon request. The Visitor Center also contains a Museum Shop operated by the Ocmulgee National Monument Association, a Discovery Lab, library, curatorial storage facilities, and administrative offices.
