Getting Started

Party Size

The maximum party size allowed on all trails is 12 pairs of eyes (including people and stock). For travel in most cross-country zones, the party size is limited to 6 pairs of eyes (except in the cross-country areas around Shuksan, Eldorado, and Boston Basin, where the party size is also 12). Party size limits help protect the landscape and the experience of others. If your group is larger, you must divide into two or more smaller groups, and travel and camp separately (i.e. at least one mile, or a half-days travel time apart). Please respect these limits.

Did You Know?
The North Cascades are named after the abundant waterfalls that lace the mountains. Two of the best known waterfalls are Gorge Falls between Newhalem and Diablo along State Route 20 and Rainbow Falls in the Stehekin Valley.
