These researchers are determining the number of and type of woody debris on the forest floor. They record any log that crosses the transect which is over 50 centimeters in diameter. Through this process, they discover what type of forest a carnivore prefers. Habitat type is described along four radiating 50-meter transects (north, south, east and west).
