Have each student write one reason why classifying may or not work within scientific experiments. For example, what should scientists do with statistical outliers—types and species that do not fit into the normal classification schemes? Use the rocks that didn't 'fit in' during the Backyard Discovery Classifying ROCKS to demonstrate the problem.
