HASOTINO VILLAGE SITE

Hasotino Village archeological site, once the largest village along the Snake River, was occupied until the end of the 19th century. It is adjacent to the developed part of Hell's Gate State Park just a few miles south of the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers.. There is little visual evidence of the large village and eel fishery that was once here. The Nez Perce name for the site is Hesutiin (pronounced He-soo teen). A small display in the Hells Gate State Park Visitor Center describes early occupation at the site.
