Many New Bedford whaleships voyaged to the North Slope of Alaska. It was not uncommon for the Inupiat people who lived on the North Slope to be recruited as whalers and crew on these New Bedford boats. To help tell these stories, the park formed a partnership with the Inupiat Heritage Center in Barrow, Alaska. To learn more about our most distant park partner in Alaska and the traditions and language of the Inupiat people click on the image above or click here.
