Built in 1924, and vacant and deteriorating since 1992, the Kelso Depot is now undergoing a major facelift. The majestic depot, located in the heart of Mojave National Preserve, is being renovated to serve as a major visitor orientation facility. Some rooms will be furnished to provide a glimpse into the depot's appearance during its heyday in the 1940s. The building will also house exhibits, a classroom, and an auditorium. The project is expected to be completed by winter of 2004-05.
