I became a volunteer because I
thought it was a way to give something back to the community.
Little did I realize that I would get back more than I gave.
The opportunity to meet people from all over the world, the opportunity
to be where history is alive . . . the opportunity to learn .
. . Throughout our nation's history, volunteers have played a critical role in helping protect, preserve and interpret the cultural and natural resources found within our National Parks. Here at Minute Man N.H.P. there are many different volunteer opportunities to choose from: costumed interpretation, demonstrating 18th-century crafts, assisting at the park visitor centers, park library data entry, trail work, gardening, and research, to name a few. Serving over 1 million people per year, the success of the park is due, in part, to the number of volunteers eager to help us protect and interpret the place where the American Revolution began. We invite you to come explore the park and the volunteer possibilities. If you are interested in volunteering and are over 18 years old, please ask for a volunteer application at one of our visitor centers, or write to: Volunteer Coordinator, Minute Man NHP, 174 Liberty St. Concord MA. 01742. Or call: (978) 318-7826. or email: bob_derry@nps.gov For more information on volunteering in the National Parks, visit: www.nps.gov/volunteer. Currently, we can use volunteers in the following positions: Park Library Volunteer: computer data entry of the Park's collections Park Visitor Center Volunteer: assists vistors at the two visor centers 18th century Reenactors: (In most cases, you would be expected to provide your own 18th century style attire and accoutrements) Individual Trailb Worker: walks the Battle Road Trail, greets vistors and picks up trash Team member: works with a group to weed out exotic plants and clear trails of brush.
