Spruce Tree House Tour

The walk into Spruce Tree House is probably the "easiest" journey into
a cliff dwelling at Mesa Verde National Park. The way in is steep and
descends 100 feet into Spruce Canyon. The trail is paved and there are
no steps or ladders on the entrance trail. Wheelchairs and strollers
can be used on the trail. Anyone using a wheelchair will need assistance
on the way in and out as the trail does not meet grade requirements.
The site is usually self-guided and visitors can take their time on
the trail. Spruce Tree House is open daily during the summer from 8:30am
to 6:30pm. Before Memorial Day and after Labor Day hours are scaled
back to 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Spruce Tree House is a self-guided site most of the year (from early
March through early November). There is no fee required to visit the
site. When the site is open self-guided there are rangers on duty in
Spruce Tree House to answer any questions. During the winter months
free guided tours of the site are provided (winter tours are given three
times a day at 10:00am, 1:00pm and 3:30pm from early November through
early March). Even on the coldest day of the year we try and keep at
least this site open for those willing to brave the snow and cold.
