| Below are some of the positions commonly filled by volunteers at Lynson B. Johnson National Historical Park. This list is not meant to limit the possibilities for VIP opportunities, but rather to offer a general overview. | |

Visitor Center Receptionist/Guide Greets
all visitors, provides a brief orientation to the history of the site
and the museum, directions to the Boyhood Home, Settlement and LBJ Ranch,
and information on fees, tours, and demonstrations. Makes sales for the
Western National Parks Association. Answers phones when possible, and
helps the Ranger on duty to monitor the radio in case of emergency. |
| Cultural Demonstration Interpreter Dressed in period clothing, demonstrates a typical pioneer or chuckwagon cook task, such as bread or cobbler baking, cooking, gardening, or sewing. Gives either short, spontaneous talks to casual visitors or leads scheduled groups in longer demonstrations. Reports to the VIP Interpretive Supervisor. |

Bus Interpreter Obtains Commercial Drivers License to conduct 1 ½ hour bus tours of the LBJ Ranch. Completes Guide training to interpret the following areas of the Ranch; the Junction School, Reconstructed Birthplace, Family Cemetery, the Texas White House and Show Barn. |
Curatorial Division Collections Assistant Assists with cataloging and inventorying collections and archives, cleaning furnishings in historic houses, and rehousing and storing artifacts. Reports to the Museum Curator. VIP duties and responsibilities vary for each individual. |
| Maintenance VIP Assists with grounds maintenance and preventative maintenance on both reconstructed and modern structures. Helps maintain utility systems, and tools and equipment. Tends to the feed and care of Longhorns in Johnson City district or Herefords at the Ranch district. Reports to the Maintenance Foreman. |

Administrative VIP Administrative positions are available in the areas of administration, library, interpretive division, and curatorial. Duties may include but are not limited to computer word processing, filing, answering telephones, library book and files accessioning, conducting inventories, and compiling information packets. |

Sewing If you have sewing talents you can lend them to the park by creating period clothing and other special projects.

Public Affairs VIP Public affairs positions assist with park newsletter preparation, development and distribution of articles about park activities and events, updating media contact lists, responding to media requests for photographs and fact checking, reorganizing the park public information files for archiving in the library, preparation of statewide national park events calendar, public information outreach at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo, servicing of local visitor bureaus with park information, updating of the Texas national parks intranet site, and assorted other public information communications needs. |

Housing RV sites with full hookups are available for VIPs in the park at no cost to the volunteer. Limited housing for VIPs without an RV is available in the park. |
Hours and Period of Work VIPs make a commitment for a specific period of service. VIPs utilizing park housing facilities should plan to work two or three consecutive months at 32 hours per week. |
