Lowell National Historical Park
A Brief Visit

The Boardinghouse

The Boardinghouse - a large 3 story brick building with large grassy lawn.

This restored 1830's Boott Mill boardinghouse was once the home to "mill girls", New England farm girls who came to Lowell to work in the factories. These young women lived in company owned boardinghouses like this one. Today, this building houses the UMASS Lowell Center for Lowell History, and Lowell National Historical Park's "Mill Girls and Immigrants" Exhibit.

Boardinghouse Park, in the foreground, is home to outdoor concerts throughout the summer.
