Cave Loop

The Cave Loop road passes the Visitor Center parking lot and climbs the lava flow to the south, looping past more than a dozen marked caves. These vary greatly in depth, shape, size, and length, and some are more difficult to explore than others.

More information on our caves is available online, but wise visitors stop at the Visitor Center to talk to a ranger about must-see caves, equipment needs, and up-to-date closures or restrictions.
