The adobe barn is no longer at the ranch. The roof got blown off in a storm.
The walls all melted. That is called erosion. Adobe is made of straw, water, manure,
grass and clay. The Keys did not built the barn. It was built by the McHaney brothers
who lived there first. Bill Keys made other things of adobe. He had an adobe well
that was about 30 feet down. The rangers had to put a net over it so no one would
fall. They used it to make adobe bricks. It was hard work back then, I mean really
hard work. Click here to see a picture of what remains of the adobe barn. |

Bill Keys was a pack rat. He did a lot of recycling and a lot of good things
to people. The workshed has a lot of cool stuff. He found the stuff when people
left the desert and left things behind. He brought back the stuff to his ranch.
In the workshed, there are things made of rope, rubber, glass, leather, wood,
metal, steel, and canvas. He could fix anything with the junk he collected. A
material we use everyday is missing. Can you guess what it is? (Plastic) Click here to see a picture of the work shed. |
