| The Education Outreach Office at Joshua Tree National Park offers two interships each year. The Fall internship lasts for 12 weeks and runs from October through December. The Spring internship lasts for 14 weeks and runs from January through April. |

| The education office presents programs to 14,000 students annually. Over half of these programs are presented at school locations within a 100 mile radius of the park. The education staff is team oriented and uses various inquiry methods to present programs that connect to both state and national standards for science and social science education. | |||||
| Duties: Interns help park staff present established education programs to school children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Programs deal with Joshua Tree National Park natural and cultural resource themes and are presented in school classrooms as well as in the park. In-class programs at schools are about an hour in length and in-park programs last approximately 3 hours. A significant amount of driving and some desert hiking is required. | |||||
| Skills: Experience working with children is required. The incumbent must enjoy working with children who are five to 12 years of age on a daily basis. Good communication skills are a must. Incumbent must possess a valid US drivers licence and will need a car for personal use. | |||||
| Compensation: $100 a week stipend; reimbursement for intial travel to the park and return may be available up to $300, receipts required; dorm housing at no cost. | |||||
| Location: Joshua Tree National Park is located in the southern California desert region. The education office is located five miles south of Yucca Valley in Black Rock Campground. Yucca Valley (25,000 pop.) has a variety of services, medical facilities, and shopping. Palm Springs and San Bernardino are located within an hour driving time and Los Angeles is two hours away. | |||||
