Francois Vigo (1747-1836) came to St. Louis in 1772 from Italy by way of New Orleans. Vigo was in partnership with Emelien Yosti (see Block 30) and interested in the fur trade. He gave help to George Rogers Clark's expedition against Vincennes in the American Revolution. Vigo owned this house in 1779, but had moved away by 1804. In 1804, Auguste Chouteau (see block 34) owned this poteaux en terre (posts in the earth) house measuring 41 x 17 feet, and probably rented it out.
