This stone house was owned by Auguste Chouteau in 1804 and probably rented out. The 30 x 24 foot house was originally built by Louis Chancellier in 1779. In 1818 William Clark built a two story brick house on this property.

A modern view of the site of the Chouteau house, the property later owned by William Clark. This view is taken looking north toward the Gateway Arch Parking Garage.
