The Corps as Community

Summary
Except for a few individuals who choose to remain alone, everyone is part of a community. For most people, this is such a natural state of affairs that the benefits of living in a community are often taken for granted. In this lesson and follow-up activities, students investigate the structure and characteristics of a community. Their conclusions are then applied to the Corps of Discovery and to Indian tribes encountered by the Corps.

A Word For Teachers About Using This Curriculum Guide
Lesson plans and activities in this curriculum guide have been planned to accommodate a wide range of student interests and capabilities rather than imposing a rigid age/grade structure upon the materials. After all, no one knows your students better than you do.
