[Block 35C&D]

On the southeast corner of this block stood this poteaux en terre house and stone blacksmith shop which belonged to Francois Valois.

This building, the Cahokia Court House in Cahokia, Illinois, looks much like the typical vertical log structures that once existed in the town of St. Louis. The Valois house might have looked something like this structure, which dates to the 1730s. Today the Cahokia Court House is open for tours and run by the State of Illinois as a historic site.

This view, taken looking northward toward the legs of the Gateway Arch, was made in the vicinity of the site of the Valois House.
