Instructions and Research Hints
1. As you do your research, select one of your artist's works that stands out in your mind--because you like it, because you don't like it, because it puzzles you, because it "speaks" to you, etc. Down load a copy of it from the Internet, or make a photocopy of it from a book to measure about 5 x 7 inches or less. Use color if possible, but black and white is all right, too.
2. When researching on the Internet or in the library, the following keywords may be helpful: Artist's name + specialty (i.e. Thomas Moran + painter); Artists + American West; Painters + Sculptors + American West; Lewis and Clark + artists; A useful Internet site is http://www.artcyclopedia.com/history/. This is a search engine for artists and art museums worldwide.

The Gallery Sheet
1. After you have gathered information about your artist, your teacher will give you a special gallery sheet. Mount the picture you have copied on the space indicated. Then transfer the required information from the worksheet to the gallery sheet.
2. Indicate your feelings about the work of art you have chosen. You may do this however you choose--write a critical analysis, compose a poem or song, imagine what the characters are thinking or talking about-it's up to you.
3. Make your gallery sheet neat and attractive and sign your name at the bottom
4. Share the information about your artist with the class.

Setting Up the Gallery
With the assistance of your teacher:
1. Decide on a place to exhibit your gallery sheets. Mount them in chronological order, earliest artists first.
2. Invite other classes to view your Western Art Gallery. To make it a special event, "open" your art gallery with a reception.
