Title Graphic depicting Vinn Diagram featuring G. Louisiana Purchase

The Louisiana Purchase

Summary
The Louisiana Purchase was one of the most celebrated events in American history. This event is unique in that a vast territory was added to the United States through bargaining instead of war. However, the repercussions from the Louisiana Purchase were far from peaceful. Starting with the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the addition of the Louisiana Territory accelerated the westward expansion of the United States. The result was years of bloody frontier warfare as Indian tribal groups tried to hold on to their homelands. The purchase itself, involving some of the world's most interesting historical figures, is living proof that truth is often stranger than fiction. Basic information necessary for carrying out the related activities is presented in the Lesson Plan.
