This is the story of a Scottish fur trader and adventurer who explored the Canadian Northwest several years before the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Cross, Francis E. Sea Venture: Captain Gray's Voyages of Discovery, 1787-1793. Gray was an America sea captain who discovered the mouth of the Columbia River in 1792. His accomplishment gave the United States a strong claim to the Oregon Territory whose ownership was disputed at the time.
