Did You Know?
After crossing the mountains the explorers split their small group into two parties, one under SextantLewis to return down the Missouri and the other under Clark to go down the Yellowstone. The two groups would meet in the area of (#35). They wanted to map the mountain passes to be sure they had found the very best route over the mountains. On the return Lewis and three other men had a fight with Blackfeet Indians, killing two. Lewis and his men survived.
