to form and demonstrate the dimensions of this grizzly bear. Have
they ever encountered an animal this large?

a Bear but not killed him escapes into a Tree." Have students
discuss safety with wild animals.

Bears are dangerous. The men found bear tracks that measured three
times larger than a man's foot. Captain Lewis wrote in his journals
about one of the men, William Bratton, who attempted to kill a bear.
After one shot, the bear turned on him and chased him. It took two
more shots to kill him. Captain Lewis wrote, "these bear being so
hard to die rather intimidates us all."
