[Block 5C]

This stone house measured 24 x 30 feet. It was built in 1786 and owned by Jean Pierre Pourcelly, a native of Province, France. In 1806 it was purchased by Joseph Robidoux III (1783-1868), a merchant and trader.

This modern view, looking northeast toward the Mississippi River, was taken from the site of the Pourcelly House. To the left the 1874 Eads Bridge can be seen; the railroad cut can be seen near the bottom of the picture.
