This was the first burying ground (cemetery) of St. Louis. It was used between 1771 and 1831. All the graves were moved to other cemeteries by 1831, and today nearly all the graves that were once in this cemetery are in Calvary Cemetery in north St. Louis.

This view of the Old Cathedral was taken looking southward from about the line of Market Street. Today the site is on the grounds of the Gateway Arch. The area in the foreground of the picture was once the graveyard of Colonial St. Louis.
