[Block 59A]

This was the stone house built for the pastor of Colonial St. Louis' Catholic Church. This rectory measured 27 x 45 feet, was built of stone in 1771 and occupied until after 1820.

Most of the leading citizens of St. Louis signed this document in 1770, deeding the property in Block 59 to the Catholic Church forever. The signature of Pierre Laclede Liguest can be seen in the lower left hand corner.
