[Block 55C]

Nicholas Beaugenou, Sr. was one of the earliest residents of St. Louis. This house was built before April 20, 1766, when the first wedding in St. Louis took place here. Since the church was not built until 1770 (see Block 59), the festivities for this wedding were held in this private dwelling and heralded by gunfire rather than bells.
