[Block 33A] Tayon

This stone house used by Joseph Michel dit Tayon, whose son Charles was the first Spanish commandant at St. Charles. It was originally built in 1765 for Pierre Chouteau, Sr. (see Block28). In 1808 Antoine Chenie, a prominent fur trader, moved into this building; in 1805 he married Marie Therese Papin, daughter of Joseph Marie Papin and Marie Louise Chouteau (see Block 32).
