This 30 x 22 feet poteaux en terre (posts in earth) vertical log house was built by Alexis Marie in 1766. It was purchased in 1781 by Emelien Yosti, a native of Italy and a pioneer of the Santa Fe trade. After the United States assumed control of the province in 1804, the first courts met in this house. In 1808, the first American militia was organized here. Fencing lessons were given in this house in 1809, and in 1819 an exhibition of wax figures was held here.
