[Block 14C]

In the north half of this block was a blacksmith shop built by a man named Thebault in 1768. In 1804 the shop was owned by John and Nicholas St. Andre.

This view was taken looking southward down First Street from the site of the St. Andre blacksmith shop. Today this area is called "Laclede's Landing" and is a popular nightspot. The bridge in the background is the approach for the Eads Bridge; the Gateway Arch can be seen soaring above the bridge in the background.

This is the way the site of the St. Andre Blacksmith Shop looks today; the building in the center of the picture stands on the site today. This view, looking eastward, shows the confluence of First and Lucas Streets in "Laclede's Landing."
