ISLE ROYALE RELEASES ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

FOR PUBLIC REVIEW

(HOUGHTON, MI) – Superintendent Phyllis Green released an Environmental Assessment for public review and comment today. Isle Royale National Park, Michigan, proposes the construction of four buildings to house mandatory oil spill response equipment at Amygdaloid Island, Malone Bay, Windigo, and Rock Harbor. The Environmental Assessment describes a no action and a proposed action alternative and analyzes the environmental impacts of each. The National Park Service prefers the proposed action.

If you are interested, the Environmental Assessment can be found on the Isle Royale National Park web site at www.nps.gov/isro/EA-spillmanagementbuildings.pdf. Copies of the document can also be obtained by calling the park Compliance Coordinator, Liz Valencia, at 906-487-7153, or by writing to: Superintendent, Isle Royale National Park, 800 East Lakeshore Drive, Houghton, Michigan 49931.

Public comment on the project must be received by June 10, 2002. Written comments can be sent to the above address. Email comments can be sent to Liz Valencia at liz_valencia@nps.gov.
