Isle Royale Resorts operates facilities and services at Windigo and Rock Harbor on Isle Royale. A utility surcharge will be added to the cost of all facilities, goods, and services provided by Isle Royale Resorts. This represents utility costs over and above the costs of providing similar utility services by a mainland utility.
Rock Harbor
For those Island visitors who want the experience of the wilderness and Lake
Superior, but are not prepared or able to camp, the Rock Harbor Lodge offers
both motel style accommodations (with the European Plan or the American Plan
for dining) and fully-equipped housekeeping cabins (no meals included). A full-service
dining room and snack bar offers service to all park visitors. Handicap accessible
facilities are available.
The Rock Harbor Lodge also operates a marina with fuel sales, docks with hook
ups for vessels up to 65’ in length, pumpout service, motor boat and canoe
rentals (by the half, full day, or week), and kayak rentals (day use only).
Guided fishing charters and sightseeing tours aboard the MV Sandy are
available. A water taxi service to multiple destinations between Rock Harbor
and Siskiwit Bay on the South Shore and between Rock Harbor and McCargoe Cove
on the North Shore is also available.
Groceries, basic camping gear, and fishing supplies are available at the marina store. Gifts, handcrafted items, photo supplies and apparel are offered at the gift shop at the dining room/snack bar. Fishing licenses are sold at the lodge office. Showers and a laundry facility are located near the marina store.
Windigo
The Windigo Store offers basic camping supplies, groceries, sandwiches, and
fishing licenses. The marina offers gasoline, pumpout service, and boat, motor,
canoe, and kayak rentals. Showers and a coin laundry are located at the store.
There is a credit-card activated pay phone in Rock Harbor but no phone service in Windigo. Cellular phones work from some locations on the Island but are unreliable.
The cost for utilities (water, sewer, power) on Isle Royale is much higher than for comparable utilities on the mainland. A utility surcharge will be included in the cost of all goods and services provided by Isle Royale Resorts in order to recover these higher operating costs.
