REPATRIATION
The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) was signed into law on November 16, 1990.  The North Slope villages have appointed Michael Pederson, Arctic Slope Native Association, Ltc. (ASNA) Natural Resources Specialist, as the tribally designated contact person to handle repatriation issues.  IHC plans to assist ASNA in their efforts to repatriate Iņupiat human remains and cultural items.  IHC, operating as the regional facility for all villages, was issued a letter of authorization from the Iņupiat community of the Arctic Slope, the regional Tribal Government, to deal with repatriation.  ASNA and IHC will develop an MOA for an implementation process of recovery, by May, 2000.
