Invertebrates

An inventory of invertebrate populations was conducted at Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site (Pandullo-Quirk Assoc. 1979). With the exception of Gypsy Moth, mosquitoes, and a benthologic study in the tidal section of the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt NHS, no other work on invertebrates has been conducted.

The presence of Deer Ticks (Ixodes dammini) has been documented, and Lyme Disease is a major problem throughout the entire region. Information on prevention and detection has been made available to park employees and visitors, and any ticks collected are sent to Dr. Howard Ginsberg at the Center for Coastal Studies for identification and analysis.
