Gun Hill - Congressional Monument and Cannon

Gun Hill
Just before the battle, Jackson place two small cannons - a 3 pounder and a 6 pounder - here and trained them on the barricade.

Today a lone cannon stands watch over the battlefield. A monument was erected here in 1918 to commemorate the battle. The granite monument was hauled to the site by ox and wagon. It is inscribed with the wrong date of the battle.

This maker was place at the base of Gun Hill by the Alabama Chapter of the Daughers of 1812 in 1914 to commemorate the Battle of Horseshoe Bend and the Leadership of Andrew Jackson in the Creek War.

Major Montomgery was the only soldier of the 1814 battle to be buried on the battlefield. A fenced marker at the base of Gun Hill marks the last and final resting place of Major Montgomery.
