Directions by Car to Harpers Ferry

From Reagan (Washington) National Airport:

  • Take the George Washington Memorial Parkway north to I-495 (Beltway)
  • Go north into Maryland on I-495
  • Exit onto I-270 (from left lane of I-495) toward Frederick, Maryland
  • Continue on I-270 to Frederick
  • Continue west on I-70 at Frederick for about 1 mile
  • Take Exit #52 onto U.S. Route 340 (Charles Town and Leesburg exit)
  • Continue south/west on U.S. Route 340 to Harpers Ferry (22 miles)
  • Cross the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers and continue west on U.S. Route 340
  • Turn left at the traffic light and proceed to the Harpers Ferry NHP Cavalier Heights Visitor Center
  • There is a $5.00 park entrance fee (valid for three days)

From Dulles International Airport:

  • Take Route 267 West (toll road) to Leesburg, Virginia
  • At the end of Route 267, bear left and continue on Bypass Route 7 West around Leesburg
  • Exit onto Route 9 West about 3 miles west of Leesburg
  • Follow Route 9 through Hillsboro
  • Turn right onto Route 671 (just after you pass a large pond on your left)
  • Follow Route 671 North for about 8 miles
  • Turn left on U.S. Route 340 at the traffic light
  • Cross Shenandoah River bridge and continue west on U.S. Route 340
  • Turn left at the traffic light and proceed to the Harpers Ferry NHP Cavalier Heights Visitor Center
  • There is a $5.00 park entrance fee (valid for three days)

Directions by Train to Harpers Ferry

MARC commuter trains operate Monday through Friday between Union Station in Washington, D.C., and Martinsburg, W.Va. on the MARC Brunswick Line. One-way fare from Union Station to Harpers Ferry is $7.25. For additional information about MARC train schedules and ticket reservations, call 1-800-325-RAIL or visit the MARC Website.

MARC Brunswick Line Schedule:

  • Departs Westbound from Washington Union Station at 4:55pm (arrives Harpers Ferry at 6:12pm)
  • Departs Westbound from Washington Union Station at 5:30pm (arrives Harpers Ferry at 7:00pm)
  • Departs Westbound from Washington Union Station at 6:45pm (arrives Harpers Ferry at 8:10pm)
  • Departs Eastbound from Harpers Ferry at 5:56am (arrives Washington Union Station 7:25am)
  • Departs Eastbound from Harpers Ferry at 7:01am (arrives Washington Union Station 8:30am)

Amtrak's Capitol Limited travels between Washington, D.C., and Chicago, Illinois, with a stop in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., seven days a week. Fare from Washignton, D.C., to Harpers Ferry is $12 one-way. Reservations are required. Call Amtrak toll free at 1-800-872-7245 or visit the AMTRAK Website.

Amtrak Capitol Limited Schedule:

  • Departs Westbound from Washington Union Station at 3:20pm (arrives Harpers Ferry at 4:31pm)
  • Departs Eastbound from Harpers Ferry at 12:00 noon (arrives Washington Union Station at 1:45pm)

Metro Rail service in Washington, D.C. runs between Reagan National Airport and Union Station. The Harpers Ferry train station is located in the Lower Town Historic District of Harpers Ferry NHP.
