Tomlinson's Inn at Little Meadows

TOMLINSON'S INN AT LITTLE MEADOWS

Description: This historically significant early 19th-century stone tavern still stands intact east of Grantsville, Maryland. The tavern was constructed by Jesse Tomlinson near the site of General Braddock’s 4th camp, called Little Meadows. From this point in 1755, General Braddock led his troops on the march to Fort Duquesne in western Pennsylvania during the French and Indian War. Braddock's Road was a road trace that followed Nemacolin's Path, both precursors of the National Road.

Dr. Robert Wellford, traveling with the Volunteer Troop of Fredericksburg Cavalry to supress the Whiskey Insurrection, mentions "Tomlinson's" as an overnight stop on October 24, 1794. Meriwether Lewis may also have stopped here in July 1803.
