| The fourth year of the restoration project began on May 24, 2004, with the arrival of 4 female peregrines. One was taken from the Legg Mason building in Baltimore, one from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and two from the Maryland Route 301 Gov. Nice Bridge. Two male peregrines from South Marsh Island were brought to the park on May 31. The bird from the Legg Mason building was taken to the Baltimore Zoo on June 5 for treatment of a fungal infection. She had to be put down because of a large mass that had developed in her throat. The remaining five young falcons were released June 14 and have been returning to the Maryland Heights hack site to feed. As in previous years, we expect that they will begin to wander out of the area by mid-July to explore the mid-Atlantic region. This is the last year for the park’s participation in the FalconTrak (satellite tracking) program that was implemented in 2001. The maps, like the one above, that have been provided over the last three years will remain archived on this website, however, the weekly updates with end on July 1, 2004. We have enjoyed providing this information and hope that you have found it interesting. The map (above) shows the location of the birds with transmitters during the previous week/s. As of June 2004, two birds are being tracked and include Falcon 9/G (white dots) who was released in June 2002, and Falcon X/3 (red dots) who was released on June 18, 2003. Weekly Update: During the last four weeks (May 25 - June 21), Falcon 9/G (white dots) remained the New York City area and Falcon X/3 (red dots) remained in the Delaware Bay area.
