  • Objectives

    Students will:

    1. Express thanks for the Roosevelt Island experiences which they recall.

    Materials

    Chart paper

    Drawing paper

Illustrating materials (crayons, markers, paints, etc.)

    Procedures

    1. Tell the children it is always important to thank people who have helped them to learn, and together they will compose a thank-you letter to the Park Rangers who guided them on Roosevelt Island. Explain that in the thank-you letter students should be specific about the nature experiences they enjoyed and about the questions that the trip may have raised or answered.

    2. Tell the children that sharing their illustrating ability with the Rangers would be an additional means of thanking the Rangers. Explain that they each will be asked to illustrate a nature experience - whether it is something seen, heard, touched, smelled or "done."

    3. Direct students to compose a group letter and write it on chart paper. Direct students to complete an illustration to attach to the letter.
