Follow the river upstream and watch it change from rapids to calmer waters. The trail will connect with Riverbend Park, which is administered by Fairfax County. This trail offers a peaceful walk along the Potomac. You will pass the Aqueduct Dam, built in 1850s to channel water from the Potomac to be used for drinking water for Washington D.C. and the D.C. Metropolitan area. Please remember that no swimming or wading is permitted in either Great Falls Park or Riverbend Park.
