2. What are the park and Visitor Center hours?

The park is open from 7 a.m. until dark every day except December 25th. The Visitor Center is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily, with extended hours during the spring and summer months. Contact the park for Visitor Center hours.

3. What activities are offered? Do you have any rentals?

Whether you are coming to view the falls or enjoy a relaxing day outdoors, there is a wide variety of activities at Great Falls Park to enjoy. Our most popular activities include hiking, picnicking, kayaking, rock climbing, bicycling, and horseback riding. If you would like more information, please visit our activities page. The park does not offer rentals or trail rides.

5. Can we get married in the Park?

Great Falls Park has been the location for many wedding ceremonies over the years. All wedding ceremonies require a permit. For more information, visit our weddings page.

6. What picnic facilites are available? Can I reserve a space?

There are picnic tables and small grills, which are located in the picnic area. No covered facilities are available and all tables are on a first come, first serve basis. Ground fires and collecting wood from the park are prohibited. More information is availabe here.

7. Can I bring my dog to the park?

Dogs must be on a six foot leash at all times. They are welcome on all trails and in the picnic areas in the park. Dogs may not be tied out or left unattended. Pets, with the exception of service animals, are not permitted in the Visitor Center, restroom facilities, or on Ranger-led hikes and programs. Owners must clean up after their pets. Trash bags are available in the entrance station and Visitor Center.

9. How far is it to the falls? Can I drive to the falls?

The falls are a five to ten minute walk on a straight, level trail from the Visitor Center. Overlook 2 is handicap accessible. Falls overlooks are accessible by walking only. No vehicles are permitted on the trails or in the picnic area. Three overlooks offer different views of the falls.

Across the river from Great Falls Park, the Maryland overlook for the falls is part of the Chesapeake and Ohio National Historical Park. C&O Canal NHP is located approximately twenty minutes from Great Falls Park by car. Please visit their website for directions and information.

10. Is there a fee to enter the park?

There is a $5.00 per vehicle entrance fee at Great Falls Park. Individual passes are $3.00 and apply to visitors entering the park on foot, horseback, bicycle, and motorcycle. For more information on fees and annual passes, visit the Planning a Trip page.
