Here, near the Nation's Capital, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and rushes through a narrow gorge. As you walk along the trail which leads you along the edge of Mather Gorge, the power and beauty of the river will amaze you!
Ranger-led programs are conducted throughout the year. These programs include history and nature walks to the many points of interest within the park. The Visitor Center has a schedule for the Ranger-led programs. Call them at (703) 285-2966 for both voice and TDD.
The park is open every day except December 25th. The park is closed at dark, and the gates are locked. An entrance fee is charged. Your receipt is valid for seven days and allows you access to Great Falls, Maryland.
