Recreational boaters have an option when paying at the Davis Bayou boat ramp at Gulf Islands National Seashore. Rather than fishing for correct change, regular users can purchase an annual boat ramp pass. This $20 pass allows unlimited usage for 365 days from the date of purchase of the popular Davis Bayou boat ramp located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Leaving the ramp at Davis Bayou, boaters can access Biloxi Bay, the Mississippi Sound and Mississippi’s offshore barrier islands. To purchase the pass, individuals can pay by either cash or check at the William M. Colmer Visitor Center in Ocean Springs Mississippi. The tow vehicle’s license number is required at the time of pass purchase. Without a pass, boats can still be launched at Davis Bayou for $3.00 a day. Fees collected at the boat ramp fund maintenance projects within the park. Before 1996, most fees collected at national parks went straight to the US Treasury and not to where the fees were collected. In 1996, Congress passed legislation allowing the National Park Service to retain fees collected for certain resource protection and visitor activities . At Gulf Islands National Seashore, this means 80% of boat ramp, camping and picnic pavilion reservation fees can be used in the park for repairs and improvements. The William M. Colmer Visitor Center is the mainland headquarters for Gulf Islands National Seashore in Mississippi. Davis Bayou's boat ramp and the William M. Colmer Visitor Center are located off Highway 90 in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Look for the Highway 90 intersection with Park Road. For more information, call (228) 875-9057. |
