Kangaroo rats emerge from their small burrows in the evening and search
for food throughout the night. They are preferentially herbivores and
feed on seeds and nutritious parts from many of the sand sheet's grasses,
shrubs and other plants. They are easily distinguished from other rodents
by their long bushy tail and large head.
